Lisa is a forty year old single mother raising sixteen year old daughter, Ava, trying to live a normal quiet life. She is ferociously protective of Ava and refuses to speak of her father or her past in general.
Ava and Lisa have had a very close relationship all her life, but now she is sixteen she is growing tired of her mom’s overprotective nature. She just wants to spent time with her friends, maybe even have a boyfriend.
With Ava spending more time away from home, Lisa begins to an uneasy feeling and strange things have occurred around the house. Lisa has spent a long time hiding from her past, but can she hide forever?
I read Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes when it was hailed as the thriller of the year and thought it was good, but I did not think that it lived up to all the hype, so I was curious going into this one. I have to say I like this one a lot better. There were some aspects that I was able to figure out, but there were so many twists and turns along the way it was hard to figure out the end. And, just when you thought you got the twist, she added another layer.
This story is told from multiple perspectives and multiple timelines, a form of story telling I love. The multiple perspectives makes it difficult to tell what is tell what is true, who is telling the truth. The multiple time lines really helps to show the whole story, but in small pieces, like peeling an onion. Pinborough did a really good job of peeing the onion in Cross Her Heart. I found myself racing through the pages to find out how it was going to end.
Have any of you read this or have it on your TBR? Have you read Behind Her Eyes?
Thanks for stopping by!
I didn’t really care for Behind Her Eyes either. The ending was just… meh for me. I may have to check this one out though!! I’m glad you liked this one better 🙂
