Friday Book Excerpts

Book Beginnings on Fridays Friday 56

Happy Friday, readers!

I got the idea of combining these memes over at Dorie’s Reading Corner and thought that it was a fun idea.

  • Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, where bloggers share the first sentence or more of a current book, as well as any first impressions or initial thoughts they might have.
  • The Friday 56 hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you grab a book and turn to page 56 (or 56% of an ebook), find one or more interesting sentences, and post them.

This week I will be sharing Let Me Lie by Clare Mackintosh.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The police say it was suicide.
Anna says it was murder.
They’re both wrong.

One year ago, Caroline Johnson chose to end her life brutally: a shocking suicide planned to match that of her husband just months before. Their daughter, Anna, has struggled to come to terms with their loss ever since.

Now with a young baby of her own, Anna misses her mother more than ever and starts to question her parents’ deaths. But by digging up their past, she’ll put her future in danger. Sometimes it’s safer to let things lie…

The stunning, twisty new psychological thriller from number one bestseller Clare Mackintosh, author of I Let You Go and I See You.

Book Beginning:

Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead.  –Benjamin Franklin

Death does not suit me.  I wear it like a burrowed coat; it slips off my shoulders and trails in the dirt.  It is ill fitting.  Uncomfortable.

The Friday 56:

The aftermath of a death is an unwanted gift to our loved ones.  It is our children, our spouses, our friends, who must tie up the loose ends and clear away the remnants of a sudden departure.  I did it for my parents, you did the same for yours.

I just recently finished this book and really enjoyed its twists and turns.  I really had me going until the very end.

What are you reading this weekend?

Happy Reading
